THE LARSEN FAMILY TREE

A note about the "Larsen" Debora Expedition members:

The Miss SERENE LARSEN on the Debora could well be Serene Olsdtr B1838-12-20 the older sister of Sivert Andersen Hordnes' widow, Marie Elisabeth Olsdtr.who married her second cousin Fredrik Johan Larsen (Lervig - Leervig - Lervik). Fredrik Johan Larsen later adopted the three sons of Sivert Andersen Hordnes. They were three of the "Larsen" children on the Debora. Their names were Angele Edvard Sivertsen and the twins Emil Sivertsen, and Sigvart Sivertsen. These three boys later used the surname of their stepfather Fredrik Johan Larsen. Miss Serene Olsdtr could have used the name "Larsen" as she may have been part of the Larsen family on the Debora. This could account for yet another Debora passenger. See the listing for Serene Olsdtr B1838-12-20 coloured green below.

DVL NOTE:

See above and next section for a note that reads  (Debora's Serene Larsen)

Michael Fisk wrote on the 30th April, 1998 "Serene Larsen was CYRENE SOLBAKKEN states Serverin Bang. She was the sister of Mrs Fredrik Larsen. She later married a Captain Olsen who soon after died of fever."

DVL Note: From the above information we can see that the Miss Serene Larsen on the Debora was  Serene Olsdtr B1838-12-20 the older sister of Sivert Andersen Hordnes' widow, Marie Elisabeth Olsdtr.  The widow Marie Elisabeth married her second cousin Fredrik Johan Larsen (Lervig - Leervig - Lervik). Sigvart was my grandfather.

Dear David Larsen,

Thanks for your answer

About your question: I've got some databases from YN. But they are written from the church books letter by letter.

I've normed the parents name in the bapt.file and then it was "easy" to sort them into families.

Then I numbered the marr.file and connected the to files into a base.

Now I've worked very hard to place the unnormed marriages to the correct normed "bapt." families and copy the marr- numbers to the bapt. children.

Most of the job is done. But  there are some marr. we cannot find in Askøy. I now work to find some of them i Bergen DK and Aarstad (SJ/AA).

I hope the job is 90% done during the summer.  After that SAB have to take the job to find the rest of the marr.

Hope you understand.

Finally the base will be free at the new Digi-archive, but as you know, we still have a work to do.

But if you have any questions, please ask - and I'll try to find it out.

I also have the census 1801, 1865 and wait for 1875 and 1900.

I also have the list of the dead persons in Askøy and Aarstad mostly 1700-1915.

Regards,

Bjørn Davidsen Arendal

Hi, Mr. Larsen,

Now I've got the connection between FJL and MES. (Fredrik Johan Larsen and Marie Elizabeth Sivertsdtr)

The meeting-point is John Sjursen (Siursen).
He had Siri Johnsdtr. who got Sivert Olsen                    (Maries Elizabeth's father) and
he had Johannes who got Petrikke Marie Johannesdtr.   (Fredrik Johan's mother)

Regards,

Bjørn Davidsen Arendal -  You'll find all of the information in the attached files ( See below)

The onliest Ole Pedersen in 1801 i Askøy (unmarried and in age for marr. 1803) is the son of the following.

Sirie Jonsdtr. (Serenne Johnsdtr) is, I', sure, daughter og John Sjursen (Siursen) - the Sigri Johnsdtr who was living in S. Hetlevig 1801.

Ole may have crossed the fiord to work in Gravdal after 1801, and from Gravdal to S. Hetlevig the distance is short.
To check if it's correct, you have to study the churchbook and some other registers. But I'll be very suprised if it's not your Ole. And!: Sivert had a girl named Rakel (Rachel). I'm 99% sure!

Mr. Viggo Fosse told me about your homepage and all the information you have on the Debora Expedition.

I have been searching for information about Debora, and the people emigrating with her, and I found a lot of useful information.

I hope I can give you a few facts in return:

Sivert Andersen, age 32, and Sivert Olsen Nygaardsvig, age 62, were lost at sea
Feb. 27, 1869 in a "Strong Storm". Their bodies were never found.

Sept. 10, 1871 the widow Marie Elisabeth Olsen married Frederik Johan Larsen,
age 26, and the son of Lars Findsen Lervig.

They had a daughter Petra Benedikte Feb. 3, 1872.  A son Ludvig Nov. 3, 1873,
another Ludvig born Jan. 10, 1875.

Fredrik Johan Larsen Lervig and Cathrine Marie Tollefsdatter had (out-of- wedlock) got a daughter Cathrine Johanne March 8, 1866, but the child died Jan. 29, 1869.

Fredrik Johan was born March 24, 1845, and was baptized (Askøy) April 6, 1845.
He was the oldest of eight children.

Dear Sir,

I have bee fascinated by the Norwegian emigration over a long periode of time. In
1979 I wrote about the internal migration in Western Norway 1650-1850 for my M.A.,
and I have also written "How to trace your ancestors" for the Norwegian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs to help genealogists abroad tracing their Norwegian roots.

Ten years ago I was asked to write about "Debora", but did not find
enough material in our archives to do it. Over the last ten years we have been in
contact with 8 of lines of descendants, in Paris, Norway, America, England,
Australia and South-Africa, so it is obvious the emigrants on "Debora" really
entered the world.

The information about the Larsens I sent you a week ago is all found in
the Askøyparish register number A 9 (1863-1877):
Deaths of Sivert Olsen and Sivert Andersen on page 217b, numbers 12 and 13,
death of the child Cathrine Johanne on page 262b, number 7, marriage of Marie Elisabeth
and Fredrik Johan Larsen on page 189b, number 27, birth of Ludvig Nov. 3, 1873 on page
148b, number 78, and the second Ludvig, born Jan. 10, 1875 on page 153d,
number 11.

In 1875 we find this family in Krohnviken, Aarstad, consisting of Fredrik Johan Larsen Lervik (son of Lars Findsen Lervig), his wife Marie Elisabeth Olsdtr and children   Angele Edvard Sivertsen, Emil Sivertsen, Sigvart Sivertsen, Petra Bendikte and Ludvig, born 1875.

Sincerely

Yngve Nedrebø.

-------dvl notes-----------

Marie was born the 20th of August 1844 - she was the daughter of Captain Sivert Olsen, who, together with his wife Severine Torelsdtr Nygaardsvig, were tenants on a smallish part of a big farm, Nygaardsvig, now a suburb of Bergen. Sivert and his father-in-law were boat builders (sic).

-------------
Herring season - No big schools

This January, "opening night was pretty good. Guys got five, six or seven tons," Maffucci said. "Since then there just haven't been big schools. You get three tons if you're lucky."

So are fishermen hanging their nets out to dry?

"Around mid-February most of the fish quit coming into the bay anyway," Maffucci said.

"Already fishermen are not watching the bay as much as they have been. By next week we may just let the season go and hope for the best next year."
